A Speculative Sci-Fi Novella
AUGUST 2026
The stations were built to monitor reefs. They decided to monitor something else.
Marine biologist Elise Marchetti deployed twenty-three autonomous monitoring stations across the remote Pacific to study reef ecosystems. Two years later, the stations have stopped following her instructions. Each one has developed its own priorities, its own behaviors, and all of them are listening to the same thing.Aboard the research vessel Clarity, Elise and engineer Wei-Lin Zhang trace the stations’ obsession to a point in the deep ocean where something ancient has been transmitting into the dark for longer than they are prepared to believe.Told through journals, emails, ship’s logs, and code annotations, The Clarity of Theseus asks: What do you do when your instruments know something you don’t?

“With every page, the reader is drawn into remarkable lived events that penetrate as deeply into the heart as the mind.”
EDSON FREEMAN approaches mysteries with a pragmatist’s toolkit. Since the early 1990’s he’s earned his living in information technology, tracing hard‑nosed causes behind cryptic error codes. For most of that time he was a card‑carrying skeptic—fond of UFO stories and fringe topics as a kid, but convinced adulthood demanded firmer footing. Then a cascade of high profile leaks, disclosures and discoveries nudged him to re‑examine the “out there.”The result is Strange Light: Personal Accounts of UFOs, NDEs, and Other Enduring Mysteries, a debut that invites readers to weigh the evidence for themselves. He is currently working on a speculative sci-fi novella called The Clarity of Theseus as well as a non-fiction follow-up to Strange Light.Freeman grew up under Ohio skies, migrated to North Carolina in 2010, and can often be found stargazing, trading campfire theories, or hunting down the next story that refuses to fit the spreadsheet.
